What is the Difference Between Lumineers vs Veneers?
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008Okay, so you want to know the difference between Lumineers and Veneers so let’s start comparing the two and see which options is best for you.
Lumineers are contact lenses for your teeth. Lumineers are molded to fit perfectly over your existing teeth. With Lumineers there is no removing of tooth structure either.
Veneers are typically applied to your tooth structure after the dentist files down your tooth to the desired size. Veneers are a permanent cosmetic solution for worn enamel, wear and tear, uneven teeth and more.
Like Veneers, Lumineers are a permanent cosmetic solution as well, however, with Lumineers you do have the option of removing them and going back to your natural teeth. With Veneers you don’t have that option.
Here is a brief diagram that explains the process of how Lumineers and Veneers work:

| On next dental visit, your dentist tries in your LUMINEERS to ensure a good fit. Teeth are moderately etched to prepare for placement but there is no removal of sensitive tooth structure, the painful part of traditional veneer techniques. The LUMINEERS are bonded to your natural teeth and set in place with a curing light. | Anesthetic shots are given to numb the area and teeth are severely shaved away with a drill to accommodate the veneers. | |

| In only 2 easy dental visits, you will have a permanently whiter and beautiful smile without shots, drills or pain. | A better, but still flawed smile, as the procedure is not reversible like LUMINEERS because the original teeth have been shaved down causing pain and discomfort immediately after the procedure. |
As you can see the end results are the same, both creating beautiful long lasting smiles. The process of getting to that point is the only difference.
No matter which you choose, Lumineers or Veneers, you will have a beautiful new smile that you can enjoy for many years to come.
