What Are Braces Made From?
Friday, May 2nd, 2008There are a couple of different types of braces, but for the sake of this article we will discuss the two most popular, wired braces and Invisalign braces.
Wired braces are usually made from high-grade stainless steel. There are usually a three seperate parts that create the actual braces.
- First, you have the bracket, which is bonded to your tooth in the precise location that our dentist has determined for your treatment plan.
- Second, once all the dental brackets are bonded to your teeth, our dentist will now feed the think wire through the upper and lower brackets, seperately of course. The guage of the wire our dentist will use depends on the treatment diagnosis and what the dentist is trying to accomplish.
- Third, to secure the metal wire to the brackets, normally the dentist will use a small rubber band that raps around the bracket and holds the wire in place. The fun part about the bands is usually you get to pick the color! Red on top and blue on bottom? Sure! It’s your choice so have fun with it!
Now, Invisalign Aligners only have one part to worry about, and that’s the aligners itself.
Invisalign Braces are made from a plastic material that is less than one millimeter thick. Because of the conveniences that Invisalign Clear Braces offers they are becoming the choice for orthodontics.
Since you can remove your Invisalign Aligners, this makes eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing your teeth a lot easier and more comfortable.
